Revisit Goals for 2013

I think there must be something to this "Goal Setting" instead of making New Year's Resolutions.  I have done a much better job of working to attain my goals.

April will see my making some strides to attain some of those goals.  I am scheduled to attend a two day Drupal Camp.  Drupal is an open source software to help people create and maintain their own websites.  This camp will jump start my understanding and will not hurt my checkbook like normal classroom lessons would.

I am also scheduled to attend quilt retreat number 3.  I will need to plan what to take and work on.  I have a quilt kit I purchased several years ago that I plan to get to top put together.  It is made from a panel printed with pictures from the book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar".  It will be a quilt for a child that will be given with the book.  One reason this quilt kit came to the top of the list is that a friend offered to let me quilt it on her quilt frame as a learning piece.  It will be a child size and it will be quilted in an all over design.  Translation; a good learning piece.

We are continuing to pay extra to our mortgage principle.  We are on track to pay off our house as scheduled.

I have continued to be diligent to attending my weekly Weight Watcher meetings.  My weight has yo-yo-ed some but I have averaged a 1 pound loss every week.  Right now, I am down 12 pounds since the first of the year and a 46 pound loss since I started this journey.  As a benefit of this, I cleaned out my closet.  I have about two laundry baskets full of clothes that are too big for me.  I think a shopping trip needs to be made.

My friend Susi and I continue to meet twice a week at our local community center to exercise.  Susi meets me on the days she does not have to go to work.  My wonderful hubby has been going with me most of the other week days.  This is one of the longest times I have continued a exercise program.  Yea me!  I am also looking forward to the weather getting warmer and the garden and yard needing attention.  I have taken care of a ton of weeds in our yard and mowed once.  I have emptied one of my compost piles, screening the dirt and preparing one of my two raised beds for my vegetable garden.  We had some freeze warnings Easter weekend and now storm warnings.  We got some hail early yesterday so I have not been in a hurry to plant my transplants.  I can hear the yard and garden calling to me.  I also need to put out mulch I have purchased.  I also plan to re-stain our wood fence.  All of this translates into exercise I don't get in the colder months.

We did get to travel to Lafayette to be with my brother and sister in law for their wedding anniversary.  I got to spend time with my mom.  We all miss my dad terribly.

Life goes on:  I took my dog to the vet for his yearly check up this morning and got my eyes examined yesterday.  I got to order new glasses.  Yes, I wear contacts but do keep a backup pair of glasses and don't get a new pair very often.  My old pair go way out of style before I replace them.

We have been blessed with some rain.  We got 1.5 inches on Friday and .75 on Easter morning.  The clouds keep teasing us today.  If we have gotten any so far today, it was just a sprinkle.

We are still planning a May visit to see my sister and brother in law in North Carolina.

As a side note, while working in the yard, I uncovered two nests of baby rabbits.  With all of the open fields around our neighborhood, I fail to understand why rabbits choose to dig holes in our front yard.  One nest of baby rabbits was old enough that they just ran.  I think they were old enough to take care of themselves.  The second nest was younger babies.  They came out of the nest but ran about a foot and buried their heads in the dormant grass.  I put them back in their den and covered them back up with the grass and fur mom left covering the nest.  I checked on them for the next couple of days and everything seemed fine.  We then got the 1.5 inches of rain.  The next time I checked on them, they were gone.  I hope they found protection from the storm when their den flooded.  My hubby's opinion is that they are pests and can't figure out why I worry about them.
